چکیده
A new thermodynamic phase resulting from the competition between a commensurate potential and disorder in interacting fermionic or bosonic systems is predicted. It requires interactions of finite extent. This phase, intermediate between the Mott insulator and the Anderson insulator, is both incompressible and has no gap in the conductivity. The corresponding phase is also predicted for commensurate classical elastic systems in presence of correlated

We study the quantum phase transition between a band (“ionic”) insulator and a Mott-Hubbard insulator, realized at a critical value U = Uc in a bipartite Hubbard model with two inequivalent sites, whose on-site energies differ by an offset ∆. The study is carried out both in D = 1 and D = 2 (square and honeycomb lattices), using exact Lanczos diagonalization, finitesize scaling, and Berry’s pha...

We discuss the quantum numbers of domain walls of minimal length induced by doping Mott insulators, carefully distinguishing between holon and hole walls. We define a minimal wall hypothesis that uniquely correlates the observed spatial structure with the doping level for the low-temperature commensurate insulating state of La2−xBaxCuO4 and related materials at x = 8 . We remark that interestin...
متن کاملPhase transition in a system of one-dimensional bosons with strong disorder.
We study one-dimensional disordered bosons at large commensurate filling. Using a real space renormalization group approach, we find a new random fixed point which controls a phase transition from a superfluid to an incompressible Mott glass. The transition can be tuned by changing the disorder distribution even with vanishing interactions. We derive the properties of the transition, which sugg...

Thermal fluctuations and disorder play an essential role in high-Tc superconductors. After reviewing the mean-field phase diagram we describe significant modifications that result when the effects of finite temperature and disorder are incorporated. Thermal fluctuations cause the melting of the Abrikosov flux line lattice into a vortex liquid at high temperatures, and disorder produces novel gl...

Competing magnetically ordered structures in polymerized orthorhombic AC 60 are studied. A mean-field theory for the equilibrium phases is developed using an Ising model and a classical Heisenberg model to describe the competition between inter-and intra-chain magnetic order in the solid. In the Ising model, the limiting commensurate one-dimensional and three-dimensional phases are separated by...
